Always remember T.A.R when you're using the internet.
Think about what you're reading and seeing and what you're being asked to do - like send information to someone.
Ask yourself how it's making you feel - if it makes you feel bad, or that you're being tricked don't do it.
Remember never give personal information about yourself or arrange to meet people through the internet.
Not everyone on the internet is who they appear to be. Some people may lie and try to trick you into thinking they’re your age when they’re really much older.
You should be careful of suspicious attachments or pictures in emails, and messages from people you don’t know. To be completely safe, just delete strange emails with attachments without opening them.
Whatever you put online, like a photo of yourself, is there forever and you can't get it back. So if you don't want someone taking it and spreading it around the internet don't send it.
Get a grownup to install filtering software onto your computer, to protect your computer and you.
You can get Hector Protector, the NetSafe dolphin from an organisation called NetSafe. But remember just like any other piece of computer software ask your parents/cargivers before downloading it. http://www.netsafe.org.nz
Keep the computer in a place where grownups can always see, like a family area for instance.
